Minting for Chummies

by | Mar 15, 2022 | Web3 | 1 comment

In this article we cover everything you need to know to mint a Chummy Fin Club NFT.

  1. Installing Metamask
  2. Configuring Metamask
  3. Buying Ethereum
  4. Minting the NFTs

P.S. If you prefer YouTube tutorial this covers the first two sections: MetaMask Tutorial for Beginners — How to Set Up MetaMask

1. Installing Metamask

In order to mint a chummy, you will need an Ethereum wallet that is compatible with your browser. There are several Web3 compatible wallets, but if you are a beginner user, we recommend using MetaMask, the most popular wallet solution. We also recommend using the Google Chrome browser as MetaMask has been tested extensively with Chrome and you are less likely to encounter any issues.

You can download Metamask here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/metamask/nkbihfbeogaeaoehlefnkodbefgpgknn

(If for any reason, this link above is not working for you, you can manually search for the Metamask extension using the steps below).

Step 1: Go to Chrome Web Store Extensions Section.

Step 2: Search for MetaMask.

Step 3: Check the number of downloads to make sure that the legitimate MetaMask is being installed, as hackers might try to make clones of it.

Step 4: Click the Add to Chrome button.

2. Configuring Metamask

Once you have the extension installed, it’s time to set up your wallet.

Step 1: Once installation is complete this page will be displayed. Click on the Get Started button.

Step 2: This is the first time creating a wallet, so click the Create a Wallet button. If there is already an existing wallet then import the existing wallet using the Import Wallet button.

Step 3: Click either the I Agree button to allow data to be collected to help improve MetaMask or the No Thanks button if you do not want any data to be collected. The wallet can still be created regardless of what you select.

Step 4: Create a password for your wallet and make sure you keep it in a safe place. This password will need to be entered every time you launch your browser.

Step 5: Click on the dark area which says Click here to reveal secret words to get your secret phrase.

Step 6: This is the most important step. Back up your secret phrase properly. Do not store your secret phrase on your computer. Please read everything on this screen until you understand it completely before proceeding. The secret phrase is the only way to access your wallet if you forget your password, and if your computer or hard drive disk is destroyed you will need the secret phrase to restore your MetaMask account

Step 7: Click the buttons respective to the order of the words in your seed phrase. In other words, type the seed phrase using the button on the screen. If done correctly, the Confirm button should turn blue.

Step 8: Click the Confirm button. Please follow the tips mentioned.

Step 9: Congrats! Your Metamask installation is complete. You will want to take note of your Ethereum wallet address, which is the number below the account name at the top (Pictured as “Account 1.”) Clicking on this will copy your address to the clipboard. This will be important later.

3. Buying Ethereum

The next step is to purchase Ethereum to send to your Metamask wallet. If this is your first time buying Ethereum, you must do this a couple of days before the Pre-Sale or Public Mint date in order to have your Ethereum in time, as it will take several days before the funds clear. We recommend that you do this ASAP to ensure you have enough time for funds to clear. We suggest using Crypto.com for the fastest transfers.  (Note: Robinhood currently does not allow Ethereum withdrawals and thus will not work for buying NFTs).

How much Ethereum will you need?

If you are participating in the Pre-Sale, each chummy will be .08 ETH.

During the Public Mint, each chummy will be .10 ETH.

Each wallet will be able to mint up to 10 chummies.

During mints you will also have to pay a gas fee (the fee you pay to the Ethereum network to interact with the Ethereum blockchain), the price can vary, but for a safe margin we suggest having as much as .02-.03 ETH extra for the first chummy, and .01 extra for each additional chummy you want to mint.

If you would like to mint the maximum 10 chummies, we suggest buying ~1.2-1.3 ETH for the mint.

Sending Ethereum to your MetaMask address from Coinbase.

While we recommend using MoonPay to purchase your ETH this close to mint, the following is written for users of Coinbase, as many users will have their existing ETH in Coinbase.

Once you’ve secured the Ethereum, you’re ready to send your ETH from Coinbase to your wallet.

Coinbase will let you know when your ETH is available to send. Once your ETH is ready, send it from Coinbase to your wallet by opening up the MetaMask browser extension. Click on “Account” to copy your Ethereum address (refer to Step 9 in the previous section). Your Ethereum wallet address — which is similar to a bank account number — will let you transfer and receive crypto from anyone, anywhere in the world.

From the Coinbase website head back to www.coinbase.com, select “Portfolio,” and find “Ethereum.” Click “Send,” and paste in your Ethereum wallet address from MetaMask in the “To” field. Double-check that you pasted in the full 42-character wallet address, if you send crypto to the wrong address you will not be able to get it back.

Click “Continue,” then “Confirm” to send your ETH, it should take a few minutes to transfer.

From the Coinbase app: Open the mobile app, and click on “Portfolio.” Find “Ethereum,” and select “ETH Wallet.” You should see your balance here. To send ETH to your wallet on MetaMask, click on the send icon in the top right. Enter the amount of ETH you want to send and click “Continue.” In the “To” field, paste in your Ethereum wallet address. Click “Preview” to confirm the amount and once you’re ready, hit “Send Now.” Wait a few minutes for the ETH to arrive in your wallet.

4. Minting the NFTs

After you’ve set up your Metamask and made sure your wallet is loaded up with Ethereum, you are ready to mint some chummies!!

When pre-sale goes live on March 16 1:00 PM EST/ 6PM GMT, go to the #finlist-announcements to find the links for minting.

We will be updating this section with more detailed instructions and a screenshare on how to mint our specific contract very soon.
